James Franklin ranked among best coaches by PFF

Pro Football Focus has become the best place to get in-depth information about football teams, players, and coaches. The countdown to the start of the new college football season has started, and the newest installment is a comprehensive list of coaches.

James Franklin has previously been on the radar of other sites; for example, On3 placed him fourth among Big Ten coaches, just below Luke Fickel.

Even though he is rated 10th in the USA, he is just the fourth-best coach in the Big Ten (behind Fickel, of course).
After a couple of poor years in 2020 and 2021, Franklin has Penn State once again on the brink of a College Football Playoff spot,” PFF said of Franklin.

Before becoming head coach at Penn State, he guided Vanderbilt to consecutive top-10 seasons in 2012 and 2013. Since his departure, the Commodores have not been able to accomplish that feat for the first time since 1948.

What he accomplished at Vanderbilt is a major talking point, and it may be the most spectacular season of his career outside of 2022. He’s already shown time and time again that he can get his team to perform at an NFL level.
