Michigan’s hockey team wins over Penn State, moving on to the national semifinals.

As the second round of the NCAA tournament progressed, hockey fans in Michigan were on the edge of their seats. The Wolverines had just defeated Colgate by a score of 11-1 and were ready to keep rolling into the Frozen Four.

Against the No. 2 seed Penn State, Michigan had chances and even believed they scored in the first period, but the puck ricocheted off the post.

The Nittany Lion faithful filled the PPL Center in Allentown, Pennsylvania, and PSU scored on the power play at the 18:58 mark of the second period, forcing the No. 1 seed Maize and Blue to find a way to rally on the road.

On their fourth power play of the game, Adam Fantilli scored to tie the score for the Wolverines at 12:08 in the third period.Neither side was able to score for the remainder of the quarter; therefore, the game went into overtime for the first time this tournament.

Mackie Samoskevich scored the game-winning goal for Michigan at the 0:52 mark, sending the Wolverines on to the Frozen Four in Tampa to play off against fellow 1-seed Quinnipiac. On April 6 at 8:30 p.m. EDT, that game will be played. Should Michigan prevail, they will play either the Minnesota Vikings or the Boston Celtics on April 8.
