Speedy Michigan cornerback to visit the Commanders

The Washington Commanders seem to be focusing heavily on cornerbacks and offensive linemen for the 2023 NFL draft, as shown by their attendance at the NFL combine and visits to the top 30 draft prospects.

On Monday, Penn State cornerback Joey Porter Jr. paid the Commanders a visit, and later this week, Michigan cornerback DJ Turner will do the same.

This is the latest defensive back in the first round that Washington has indicated interest in; however, it is unclear whether or not the visit has actually taken place.

Turner played two seasons as a starter for the Wolverines and was named to the All-Big Ten team both times.

Turner, who is just 5-foot-11 and 178 pounds, really stood out during the NFL combine. In the 2023 combine, Turner ran the 40-yard sprint in 4.26 seconds, making him the quickest player.

Naturally, this prompted many NFL scouts to revisit Turner’s college footage in search of evidence of his blazing speed. Mostly yes, although Turner’s potential draft position is hampered by his small build.

Turner may be selected in the first round, but he won’t make it out of the second.
