Central Catholic 2024 3-Star WR Peter Gonzalez Commits to Penn State

Peter Gonzalez, a Class of 2024 three-star wide receiver from Central Catholic in Pittsburgh, Pa., announced that he has committed to Penn State on Friday evening.

Penn State beat out Miami and Virginia Tech to land the commitment of Gonzalez (6-foot-3, 200 pounds),

who is the No. 14 player in Pennsylvania and the No. 72 wide receiver in the country, according to 247Sports.

He also held offers from Power Five schools such as Cincinnati, Iowa State, Maryland, West Virginia, and Wisconsin.

Gonzalez made his most recent visit to Penn State last weekend and sealed his commitment as coaches were impressed with his performance at the Elite Showcase.

Gonzalez’s father, Pete Gonzalez, started for Pitt during the 1997 season, and he played for the Pittsburgh Steelers from 1998-2000, where he served as a backup for Kordell Stewart and Kent Graham.

He went on to play for the Hamilton Tiger Cats in the Canadian Football League from 2002-2003

Gonzalez finished with 42 catches for 737 yards and eight touchdowns in 2022,

despite missing three games, establishing himself as a deep threat, verified by his 10.86 100-meter dash time in track in field.

With Gonzalez’s commitment, he joins his teammate linebacker Anthony Speca as the second pair of teammates to commit to

Penn State in the 2024 recruiting cycle along with Jon Mitchell and Antoine Belgrave-Shorter of Mandarin High School in Jacksonville, Florida.

New Penn State wide receivers coach Marcus Hagans is starting to make his mark on the recruiting trail as Penn State lands its second in-state wide receiver commitment of the week.

Just two days after flipping Tyseer Denmark from Oregon, he has landed a talented WPIAL player in Gonzalez, who will play a part in a great wide receiver corps.
