What to Know About the Allegations Against Deshaun Watson

The N.F.L. quarterback will be suspended 11 games and fined $5 million after 24 women accused him in lawsuits of coercive and lewd behavior during massage appointments. He settled 23 of the claims.

More than 20 civil lawsuits have been filed against Deshaun Watson accusing the newly acquired Browns quarterback of inappropriate conduct and sexual assault.

Houston attorney Tony Buzbee filed the first three lawsuits in March 2021 related to separate incidents involving accusations from multiple massage therapists.

Buzbee wrote in one of the lawsuits that Watson's behavior is part of a "disturbing pattern of preying on vulnerable women," per ESPN's Sarah Barshop.

The lawsuits have all been filed by women who accuse Watson of sexual misconduct ranging from inappropriate touching to forced oral sex.

In March 2022, a Harris County (Texas) grand jury declined to indict Watson on criminal charges related to the accusations,

opening the door for the Texans to trade Watson to the Browns days later.

Fox 8 Cleveland reported a grand jury had convened in a different Texas county to consider charges based on a complaint filed by one of the women involved in the civil cases, but it also declined to indict Watson.

"After a careful and thorough review of the facts and evidence documented in the reports prepared by the Brazoria County Sheriff's Office and the Houston Police Department,

as well as hearing testimony from witnesses, the Grand Jury for Brazoria County has declined to charge Deshaun Watson with any crimes,"

Brazoria County District Attorney Tom Selleck said in a statement (via ESPN). "Accordingly, this matter is closed."
