the head coach of the Mississippi State University football team, had passed away. Leach had been hospitalized since Sunday morning and was receiving care.

In his three seasons of coaching in the conference, he had an overall record of 19-17, with an improved record every season.

Fellow SEC West head coach Nick Saban commented on the untimely passing of Leach.

“Mike Leach was a friend, and we are deeply saddened by his unexpected passing.

I never knew quite where our conversations were going, but they always made me smile.

His teams were well-coached and extremely challenging to defend.

They played with poise and toughness, which is a credit to his leadership.

Our thoughts and prayers are with his wife Sharon, their children and the entire Mississippi State family.”
