Ohio State wrestling tops No. 4 Cornell in Tampa

It’s been a bit of an up-and-down season for the Ohio State wrestling team.

The Buckeyes have been in the top ten all year, but have yet to really make a splash consistently enough to be a serious threat to Iowa or Penn State in the Big Ten.

However, OSU got a big one Saturday when it knocked off No. 4 Cornell 22-14 in the Spartan Combat Duals down at the Tampa Convention Center.

The Big Red were 11-3 heading into the contest but OSU showed grit in winning its last dual meet of the season to improve to 13-3 overall.

Things got off on the right foot for Ohio State when Dylan D’Emilio beat Cornell’s Ethan Fernandez 6-1 for a quick three points in the 141 weight class.

There really weren’t too many upsets to speak of with each ranked wrestler winning their matches on both sides,

but OSU got out to a 13-0 lead early, making it difficult for Cornell to play catch up.

Perhaps the most pivotal matchup was at Gavin Bell of OSU beating Cornell’s Ethan Hatcher 10-9 for a six-point swing. Here’s how all the matches played out:
