Transformers: Rise of the Beasts Opens #1 At Box Office Despite Brutal Spider-Verse Competition

Transformers: Rise of the Beasts has pulled off a box office coup in its opening weekend.

The film, which premiered in theaters on June 9, is the seventh entry in the live-action Transformers movie series,

an offshoot of the larger media franchise of toys and cartoons that began in the 1980s.

The new film follows two human archaeologists (Anthony Ramos and Dominique Fishback) who find themselves in the middle of a war for the fate of Earth between Unicron and the Autobots,

who must team up with the Maximals for an epic battle.

Per Deadline, the Transformers: Rise of the Beasts box office raked in a final opening weekend total of $60.5 million,

taking the No. 1 spot at the domestic box office.

This wasn't a given, as throughout the weekend it jockeyed for supremacy with the hit animated movie Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, which is currently in its second week.

That movie ended up taking second place with a whopping $55.5 million.
