Transformers: Rise of the Beasts Makes Hailee Steinfeld’s Absence Even Worse

Transformers: Rise of the Beasts has a call back to Hailee Steinfeld's character from Bumblebee, making her absence in the movie even worse.

Having been the primary human protagonist in 2018's Bumblebee, it was already odd that her role wasn't continuing prior to Rise of the Beasts' release.

However, the events of the movie itself and a reference to Steinfeld's character double down on how unfortunate it is that she's missing from the new movie.

2018's Bumblebee from director Travis Knight is set in 1987,

a Transformers prequel that shows the titular Autobot's first adventures with humans before Optimus Prime and the other Autobots arrive on Earth from their dying world of Cybertron.

Steven Caple Jr.'s Rise of the Beasts is set 7 years later in 1994, and together these films have effectively soft-rebooted the Transformers franchise.

While they're still part of the same timeline as the first five films directed by Michael Bay, a new era of canon has been created.

Keeping that in mind, Rise of the Beasts proves that Hailee Steinfeld's Charlie Watson should have had a role, especially considering Bumblebee's fate.
