notre dame football looks to tim brown as it launches mentoring plan tobias merriweather heisman : Three weeks after asking the Notre Dame football team to consider its long-term legacy, all-time Irish great Tim Brown is preparing for his next task: coaching super-talented sophomore wideout Tobias Merriweather.
Brown will take on this responsibility shortly after he begins working with the Notre Dame football squad.
Brown, who won the Heisman Trophy in 1987, interviewed NDInsider.com on Monday during the 2nd Annual Golic SubPar Classic held at Warren Golf Course. He stated, “They’re doing something this year that they’ve never done where they’re teaming the guys up with the veteran guys.”
Brown was referring to the fact that the tournament organizers pair younger and more experienced players. Therefore, it will be exciting to see how everything turns out. Tobias and I are working together.
Brown, now 56 years old, is inducted into the football halls of fame at both the college and professional levels. Because of his 14,934 career receiving yards and 100 career touchdown receptions, “Touchdown Timmy” is still ranked ninth all-time in the NFL. He is tied for ninth place with Steve Largent, a Hall of Famer.
Merriweather, a four-star recruit and a track standout from West Camas, Washington, only caught one pass in his limited playing time as a freshman. The pass came from Pyne, a game-winning toss from 41 yards out that Drew Pyne threw in the fourth quarter of a loss at home to Stanford.
In addition, Merriweather was out for the last three games of the regular season due to a concussion he sustained in early November.
The three freshman wideouts for the Irish who hail from the Lone Star State are KK Smith, Jaden Greathouse, and Braylon James. Brown, born in Texas and now resides in the Dallas area, spent all but one of his 17 seasons in the National Football League playing with the Los Angeles/Oakland Raiders.
However, Brown has decided to take Merriweather on as his mentor because he believes that Merriweather has more unrealized potential than any other player on the team.
Brown made the following comment: “I’m looking forward to it. It’s unclear exactly what all that entails, but we’ll have to watch how things play out wherever he needs help.
Brown gave the current Notre Dame players sound advice through a video clip published on the school’s social media accounts on June 6. In the tape, Brown encouraged the players to make it their goal to graduate from college without any regrets.
He continued, “You’re going to consider every play you missed. “Every single one of the plays that you devised has been recorded. You are aware of the performances that you were unable to attend. That is the primary concern at hand in this circumstance.
At this stage, you guys need to make sure it’s safe. … Now think about winning championships. Bring it up immediately away.
